American Military Struck a 'Major Facility' in Venezuela, Trump Asserted Without Providing Details.

Ex-President Donald Trump has claimed that US forces targeted a "large installation" in Venezuela in recent days. However, the former president offered no details on the exact nature or location of the strike, and there has been no further comment from his camp.

Unspecific Remarks Offered In a Radio Interview

"US forces just knocked out – I'm not sure if you saw – they have a major complex, where the vessels originate. Recently, we took it out. So we targeted them with significant force," Trump reportedly told GOP supporter and supermarket owner John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Possible Significance of a Verified Attack

Should a US military action is verified, it would constitute the first land strike since the Pentagon initiated a expansion of US strike forces in the region to interdict drug traffickers that the Trump administration claims operate under the direction of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

The original purpose of the military buildup has since morphed into a quarantine aimed at disrupting the country's crude oil shipments.

Social Media Footage and Official Statements

Trump has for weeks warned that American military units are poised to expand the military campaign by attacking targets within Venezuela, a tactic that would theoretically require legislative approval.

Online video posted online on 24 December purportedly showed an detonation reportedly from an industrial area in Zulia state. Yet, the video or the facility has not been independently verified.

An administration official reportedly informed a news network that the former president was referring to a narco-trafficking site in his remarks.

Reaction and Ongoing Military Posture

The Venezuelan government has issued no statement on the event the former president referenced. Furthermore, there have been no corroborating news from within the country about it.

The buildup of American forces in the region – a position some have termed a maritime "quarantine" – constitutes the most expansive naval operation of Trump's presidency.

Sources have stopped short from labeling the operation as a full blockade, but have stated that about 15,000 service members are deployed across the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf, including a aircraft carrier group, advanced fighter jets, and Coast Guard cutters to implement current economic sanctions.
